LiveAgent alternatives: 6 help desks compared honestly
Updated November 6, 2026
LiveAgent bundles email, chat, calls, and social into an inexpensive per-agent help desk with bring-your-own-key AI. Here are six LiveAgent alternatives and when each one wins.
LiveAgent is one of the best-value help desks on the market: email, live chat, a call center, social messengers, ticketing, and a knowledge base in one product, priced per agent at numbers that undercut most of the big names. So why look for LiveAgent alternatives? Usually because the interface feels dense, because the team wants a simpler tool focused on chat or email, or because they want a different shape of AI. This guide explains LiveAgent's pricing, six alternatives with honest fit, and why many teams should simply stay.
What LiveAgent is. LiveAgent describes itself as help desk and call center software for small and growing support teams, around since 2004. Every message becomes a ticket with full history. Channels include email, live chat, contact forms, phone (with phone menus, routing, and recording), Facebook, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, Viber, and Telegram. It has a knowledge base the AI answers from, 200+ integrations including Shopify, Slack, and HubSpot, and MCP server access on its Business plan.
How LiveAgent pricing is shaped. As of November 2026, regular prices are about $15 per agent a month on annual billing for Starter ($19 monthly, up to 5 agents, email, chat, forms, and knowledge base), about $29 for Team ($35 monthly, up to 15 agents, adds social channels and calls), and about $49 for Business ($59 monthly, any team size). Enterprise is a flat fee with 80 agents included. Every plan has a 30-day trial without a card.
The AI model is unusual. LiveAgent charges nothing for AI. You connect your own provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or FlowHunt) and pay them directly; LiveAgent estimates about 2 to 4 cents per AI chat. Plans differ only in how many AI agents you can run: 1, 5, 50, or unlimited. That is a transparent, cost-based model, and it's a strong reason not to switch if AI cost is your concern.
Why people look for LiveAgent alternatives. The most common reason is fit, not price. LiveAgent does a great deal, and teams that only need chat or email sometimes find the depth of settings more than they want to manage. Others want a managed AI where the vendor runs the model and they don't hold a provider account. Some want to drop the phone side entirely, and some hit plan caps: Starter tops out at 5 agents and lacks social channels and calls, and Team tops out at 15.
1. Freshdesk. A popular step up for teams that want a more guided ticketing experience. Growth is about $19, Pro about $55, and Enterprise about $89 per agent a month on annual billing. Freddy AI Agent includes 500 sessions once per account, then about $49 per 100 sessions. Choose it for automations, SLAs, and a large app marketplace; expect to pay more than LiveAgent for comparable seats.
2. Zendesk. The enterprise reference. Support Team is about $19 per agent a month on annual billing ($25 monthly), Suite Team about $55 ($69 monthly), and Suite Professional about $115 ($149 monthly). AI agent resolutions beyond the small included allowance are about $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Choose it when you need scale, workforce tools, and a wide ecosystem, and accept the higher bill and per-resolution AI.
3. Help Scout. The simplest of the help desks here, built around a shared email inbox and Docs. There's a free plan for 5 users with 100 contacts a month; Standard is about $25 and Plus about $45 per user a month. AI Answers costs about $0.75 per resolution with a spending cap. Choose it if your support is mostly email and you want a calmer interface; it isn't a call center.
4. Zoho Desk. Good value for teams already using Zoho. Plans run from a free edition through Express, Standard, Professional, and Enterprise, priced per user; live chat and messaging arrive on Standard and telephony on Professional. Zoho also offers AI agents that can use your own model key. Check Zoho's pricing page in your currency for current numbers, since they vary by region.
5. Crisp. If you're leaving LiveAgent because you mostly do chat and messaging, Crisp is a lighter, chat-first inbox priced per workspace: a free plan with 2 seats, Mini at about $45 a month with 4 seats, and Essentials at about $95 a month with 10 seats and an AI credit allowance. It doesn't replace LiveAgent's call center or classic ticketing depth.
6. ZChat. ZChat is the AI-first, chat-first option. The AI answers from your website crawl (including pages behind a login), files, help-center articles, and Q&A pairs, says it doesn't know rather than guessing, and hands the visitor to a person in the same thread; there's a shared inbox, tickets with custom statuses and fields, and a help center on your own domain. You can test the AI with simulated customers and an AI judge, and roll back settings in one click. Pricing is $29 per seat a month with managed AI (5,000 AI messages a month per workspace) or $15 per seat with your own AI key.
Where ZChat doesn't fit. ZChat has no phone or voice AI agent and no call center, and no mobile SDKs; LiveAgent's 200+ integrations and built-in call routing go well beyond it. If phones are a real support channel for you, stay with LiveAgent or look at Zendesk or Zoho Desk.
A comparison checklist. Score each candidate on: (1) channels you actually use, ranked by volume, especially phone; (2) price per agent at your real team size, monthly and annual; (3) plan caps on agents and channels; (4) how AI is paid for: your own key, credits, sessions, per resolution, or flat; (5) what happens when the AI can't answer; (6) how ticket history, macros, and knowledge base articles migrate; and (7) how long a new agent takes to learn the interface.
A worked example. Five agents on LiveAgent Team cost about 5 × $29 = $145 a month at regular annual prices, plus your AI provider's usage; at LiveAgent's own estimate of 2 to 4 cents per AI chat, 1,000 AI chats is roughly $20 to $40. Five ZChat seats with your own AI key are $75 a month plus provider usage, or $145 with ZChat-managed AI, but without calls. On Freshdesk Pro, five agents would be about $275 a month annually before additional AI sessions. LiveAgent's value is hard to beat.
When to stay with LiveAgent. Stay if you use the call center, need email, chat, social, and phone in one ticket history, like paying your AI provider directly at cost, and your team is comfortable in the interface. Most LiveAgent alternatives cost more for comparable breadth; switch only to gain something specific, such as a simpler chat-first tool, managed AI, or an ecosystem you already live in.
LiveAgent prices per agent with email, chat, calls, and social in one help desk, and charges nothing for AI beyond your own provider's usage.
Most alternatives cost more for comparable breadth, so switch for a specific gain: simplicity, managed AI, or an ecosystem.
If phone support matters, stay with LiveAgent or compare full help desks; chat-first tools won't replace a call center.
