Smartsupp alternatives: 5 live chat and AI options compared
Updated November 6, 2026
Smartsupp pairs cheap operator plans with a separately priced Mira AI agent. Here are five Smartsupp alternatives, how their pricing behaves, and when Smartsupp is still the better buy.
Smartsupp is a live chat and AI tool aimed squarely at online stores, and for a small shop it is one of the more affordable ways to get chat, social messaging, and an AI shopping assistant on one bill. If you are researching Smartsupp alternatives, it usually isn't because the product is bad. It's because the pricing has two separate meters, or because the store outgrew a chat tool and needs something closer to a helpdesk. This guide covers what Smartsupp is, why teams look elsewhere, five realistic alternatives, and when you should stay put.
What Smartsupp is. Smartsupp describes itself as live chat, chatbot, and AI tools to increase sales. The inbox covers website chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram on every plan, with email added on paid plans. It lists 60+ integrations, including Shopify, WordPress, PrestaShop, Magento, Wix, BigCommerce, and Squarespace, plus API and MCP access on higher plans. The AI side is Mira, a shopping assistant trained on your website, FAQs, and product feed that recommends products, answers common questions, and hands off to a human operator when configured.
How Smartsupp pricing is shaped. As of November 2026, the pricing page shows a Free plan with 1 operator, 25 conversations a month, and 14-day history. Paid customer-service plans are quoted per month on annual billing: Solo at about $17 (1 operator), Plus at about $25 (3 operators), and Expert at about $83 (5+ operators, extra operators from about $24 each). Those plans include a small allowance of AI reply assists (50, 250, or 500 a month). The Mira AI agent is a separate line: about $16 a month on annual billing for 100 AI conversations, upgradable toward 5,000, with the page's own example being 400 conversations for about $64 a month.
That two-meter structure is the main reason people search for Smartsupp alternatives. The operator plan prices people; Mira prices AI conversations. At low volume both are cheap. As the AI does more of the work, the Mira line grows with traffic, and in a busy month you need to know which tier you are on before you know what you'll pay. None of that is unusual in this market, but if your goal is predictable cost, it is worth modeling.
Other common reasons to switch. The Free plan's 25 conversations and 14-day history are tight for any store with real traffic, so the free tier is more of a trial than a long-term option. Teams that want structured tickets, custom statuses, or a public help center tend to find Smartsupp leaner than a helpdesk. If none of those apply to you, Smartsupp may already be a good fit.
1. Tidio. The closest like-for-like swap: a small-business chat tool with an AI agent (Lyro) and strong ecommerce adoption. Tidio's Free plan includes 50 billable conversations; Starter is listed at about $24 a month for 100 billable conversations, and Growth starts at about $49 a month. Lyro is metered separately, with an add-on starting at about $32.50 a month for 50 AI conversations. Choose Tidio if you like Smartsupp's model but want a larger ecosystem; don't choose it to escape conversation meters, because it has them too.
2. Crisp. Crisp prices per workspace rather than per conversation. Mini is about $45 a month with 4 seats, Essentials about $95 a month with 10 seats and $25 of AI credits (Crisp estimates about 450 automated conversations), and Plus about $295 a month with 20 seats. There's a free plan with 2 seats. Crisp fits teams that want many channels and a full inbox at a seat-count price, and who are comfortable with AI usage drawn from a credit allowance.
3. tawk.to. If cost is the whole story, tawk.to is the reference point: live chat, ticketing, and a hosted knowledge base are free, and it earns money from add-ons. Removing its branding is about $29 a month, AI Assist starts at about $29 a month, and you can hire human chat agents at about $1 an hour. The trade-off is that the free core leans human-first, and the AI is an add-on rather than the center of the product.
4. LiveChat. LiveChat is the polished, human-staffed option. Essential is about $19 per user per month billed annually ($25 monthly) with 10 AI resolutions a month; Growth is about $79 per user annually ($99 monthly) with 200 AI resolutions, and extra AI resolutions come in packs of 50 for about $49.50. It suits stores with staffed chat shifts that value a mature agent console and integrations more than the lowest price.
5. ZChat. ZChat is the AI-first option with one meter instead of two. The AI answers from your website crawl, files, help-center articles, and Q&A pairs, says it doesn't know rather than guessing, and hands the visitor to a person in the same thread when needed. Pricing is a flat $29 per seat a month with ZChat-managed AI (5,000 AI messages a month per workspace included) or $15 per seat with your own AI provider key, plus a free plan with 500 AI messages a month. Over the limit, new chats go to your team instead of an overage bill. Shopify stores get order lookup and an order sidebar.
A comparison checklist. Before you move, score each candidate on: (1) what you pay at your busiest month, not your average one; (2) whether AI is billed per conversation, per resolution, per credit, or flat; (3) which channels you actually use today, not the logo wall; (4) what the visitor experiences when the AI can't answer: a guess, a form, or a human in the same thread; (5) whether product feed and order data reach the AI or the agent; (6) history retention and export; and (7) how long setup takes for one store, end to end.
A quick worked example. A store with 3 operators and about 400 AI-handled conversations a month would pay Smartsupp roughly $25 for Plus plus about $64 for Mira at the page's annual example, so about $89 a month. Three ZChat seats on managed AI would be $87 a month. That is close enough that price should not decide it: the deciding questions are the product-recommendation features, the number of channels, and what happens in a month that doubles. Run your own numbers with the support cost calculator.
Where ZChat doesn't fit. Be honest about the gap: Mira is built around product recommendations from a product feed of up to 30,000 products, and ZChat's Shopify support is order lookup and an order sidebar, not cart building, cancellations, or returns. If a shopping assistant that sells is your main goal, Smartsupp or Tidio is the more direct tool.
When to stay with Smartsupp. Stay if you are a small store with one to three operators, your AI volume is in the low hundreds of conversations a month, you value product recommendations from your feed, and you sell in markets where Smartsupp's platform integrations (Shopify, PrestaShop, Shopware, Magento, and others) are already wired up. At that size, Smartsupp's total is low and switching costs time you could spend on the store.
How to switch safely. Export your conversation history first, because Free and lower plans keep limited history. Rebuild your top 20 questions as Q&A pairs or help articles in the new tool before going live. Run the new AI against a list of real past questions and review the answers. Then swap the widget on a quiet day and keep the old account open for a month in case you need to look something up.
Smartsupp prices operators and Mira AI conversations separately, so total cost depends on AI volume as well as headcount.
Compare alternatives at your busiest month and by billing basis: per conversation, per resolution, credits, or flat per seat.
Small stores that want feed-based product recommendations and low AI volume are often best served by staying on Smartsupp.
