Install the dashboard as an app and get notified when it matters

The ZChat dashboard is an installable web app. On a phone or a desktop, choose Install app and it opens full screen from the home screen or taskbar, with push notifications even when it is closed.

There are no native iOS or Android apps. The installable dashboard is what runs on phones. It is free on every edition. This page describes the ASP.NET Core edition of ZChat 2.0.5; the separate Web Forms package does not include the 2.0.5 additions.

Installable

The dashboard has a web app manifest, app shortcuts and an offline page, so browsers offer to install it.

  • A conversation is assigned to you
  • Someone mentions you in a private note

Details

Standard web push

Notifications use the Web Push standard with a key generated for each install. They are sent from your server through the browser's own push service; nothing passes through a ZChat service.

Desktop too

Desktop browsers that support installing web apps can install the dashboard the same way. For a separate Windows program, the Windows desktop agent app is also available.

Good to know

  • There are no native iOS or Android apps in the App Store or Google Play.
  • Push depends on the browser: the phone's browser must support installing web apps and web push.

Is there an iOS or Android app?

No. There are no native mobile apps. The ZChat web dashboard installs on a phone as a web app and sends push notifications.

Do push notifications cost extra?

No. The installable dashboard and push notifications are free on every edition.

What triggers a push notification?

A waiting chat, a conversation assigned to you, a mention in a private note, or a missed SLA target.
